Wedding Cake Alternatives

Although some weddings call for a beautiful and extravagant wedding cake, some couples nowadays are opting for some fun and modern alternatives to the traditional cake. Cupcakes and cake pops have been the popular choices in the recent past and now more creative alternatives, such as eclairs, truffles, donuts, and macaroons. The alternative ideas are endless and simply sweet and delicious! Other couples have chosen the not-so sweet alternatives such as cheese, pizza, and even sushi!

Dessert Table Idea: Ice Cream Shop

Jenny Keller recently created an über fun “Ice Cream Shop” theme for a couple’s recent wedding reception. The bride had requested serving just ice cream cone cupcakes, which she’d seen in Martha Stewart Weddings, but Jenny “suggested an entire dessert table with an Ice Cream Shop theme. They loved it!”

We’re delighted by everything from the chocolate-dipped Rice Krispies bars, vanilla cupcakes topped with ice cream cone cookies and the cookies and cream cake pops. And the colorful sprinkles brought everything together beautifully! This is a display that could carry over into birthday parties and bridal showers with ease.

A special thanks goes to Jenny for letting us share this fun idea! You can see the complete gallery of delicious photos here.

Love, Raya

Playful Polka Dots

Polka dots can add a festive, playful, and even retro touch to your wedding decor. However, this classic print is to be approached with care as polka dots can turn your decor from cherry to campy quickly.

Our tips: (1) For a subtle touch use white dots on a colored background. Also, weave polka dots into the details; below we love the chic texture that the white-on-white polka dots bring to the cake. (2) For a statement play around with dots and backgrounds of varying sizes and colors; below we love the colorful and fun polka dot-lined envelopes.

Don’t be afraid of prints!

Love, Raya
